2023: APC NWC to travel around the country ahead Sept 28 campaign kick-off – Nexus News

Ahead of the September 28 kick-off of political campaigns for the 2023 general election, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to embark on a tour of the six geopolitical zones to campaign and get the buy-in of leaders and members to the campaign schemes of the party.

It was learnt that the nationwide trip was also organized to enable the NWC to gather information about the level at which the party is at the zonal and states levels ahead of the proposed National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting tentatively scheduled to hold between September 24 and 26 in Abuja.

It was also learnt that the nationwide meeting will be held at designated cities in each of the geopolitical zones.

The meeting will also enable the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led NWC to announce APC’s campaign scheme to all state leaders who are expected to inform other members of the states’ campaign teams.

The NWC concluded during its weekly meeting last week.

Barring last-minute changes, the nationwide tour is scheduled to take place between September 12 and 18, is to kick start in Kano for the Northwest zone and move to the Northeast and Owerri for the Southeast meeting.

According to the arrangement of the tour, the meeting train will move to the South South, then to the Southwest and round off in the Northcentral.

A source close to the NWC said: “The National Chairman and all NWC members will be using the tour to express appreciation to state members since their emergence in March, engage with critical stakeholders, fine-tune and perfect all reconciliatory moves. The meeting will also enable the NWC to discuss and engage our members on the same-faith ticket of the party’s presidential flag bearers…”

On the reported emergency NEC meeting, the source said: “The NWC is conscious of the fact that the 90 days granted it by the NEC has since expired. The NWC has agreed to call an emergency NEC meeting, subject to date approval by President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the National Leader of the party.

“But I can authoritatively tell you that the NEC meeting will be held before the kick-off of the presidential campaign. The leadership of the party is engaging Mr. President on the date. The NWC has tentatively suggested any day between September 24 and 26 for the NEC meeting.”
