EFCC to appeal as court discharges Jang, cashier of N6.2b corruption

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has announced that it has commenced procedures to appeal the judgment of Justice C. L. Dabup of the Plateau State High Court discharging and acquitting a former governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah David Jang and a former cashier in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, OSSG, Yusuf Pam, of the seventeen-count charges levied against them by the EFCC.
This comes after a Plateau High Court sitting Jos, on Friday, discharged and acquitted Jang and Yusuf Pam, a former cashier with Plateau Government of all the 17 count charges bordering on diversification and mismanagement of N6.3billion.
According to a statement by the EFCC Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren: “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to the Friday, September 2, 2022 judgment of Justice C. L. Dabup of the Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos, discharging and acquitting a former governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah David Jang and a former cashier in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, OSSG, Yusuf Pam, of the seventeen-count charges bordering on criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of Plateau State funds to the tune of N6.3 billion.The Commission has initiated processes for an Appeal immediately.”
Honourable Justice Dabup, while delivering the verdict, said the EFCC could not prove its case of misappropriation ,and diversion of public funds entrusted to the former governor.
The court dismissed all the 17 count charges levied against the former governor and the former cashier, saying “that the case instituted against them lacked merit and they are hereby dismissed and acquitted of the charges.”
Nexus News reports that Sen.Jang and Yusuf Pam, were prosecuted before a Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos on 6.2 billion of small scale and medium enterprise and SUBEB funds amounting to billions of naira.
