“If you take me away today from PDP to another party, I will still perform” – Nyesom Wike
Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike said political party is not a determinant of effective leadership but what matters is the mindset of the leader.
The governor stated this on Tuesday during the inauguration of the dualised Ogbunuabali-Eastern Bypass Road performed by an All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain, Senator Aliyu Wamakko.
“Leadership is not about the party, leadership is about the individual. Party is only a vehicle to actualize your ambition, to be able to tell your people I have this capacity, I have this quality to render services to you. If you take me away today from PDP to another party, I will still perform. So, it is not because I’m in PDP that I’m performing.
“It is because I have that passion for my people. It is because I have the commitment to serve my people. Take me to YPP, allow me to become whatever I will become there, I will perform. Take me to any party, I will perform. So, it is not a party that makes you perform.” Wike said.
Wike’s statements come as crisis cradles the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and attempts to reconcile him with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Presidential Candidate of the opposition party.
Recall that Wike had contested the presidential ticket of the party but lost to Atiku. He had reportedly shown interest in the Vice-Presidential slot but Ifeanyi Okowa, his Delta counterpart, was appointed.
The governor further reaffirmed his devotion and allegiance to deliver his duties to the citizens of Rivers state, adding that these traits have adequately distinguished him from other politicians.
“That is why there is a sustained commitment to add value to life, impact change with the infrastructural revolution and make the state better.
According to Wike, while others have become defeated with the economic difficulty and not rendering leadership and service to their people, he found a more rewarding way to sustain the delivery of projects in Rivers.
On his part, the former governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko while inaugurating the Ogbunuabali -Eastern Bypass Road,said Wike has illustrated that he has the potential to serve Rivers people.
Wamakko added that any responsible government should work to fulfill the aspirations of the governed. He remarked that Wike has done sufficiently well for the citizens of his state.
