Plateau Discovers 5,000 Schools Without License, Suspends All Private Schools.

The Plateau state Government had on Thursday, withdrew licenses of all private nursery, primary, and secondary schools across the state.

This was declared by the state Commissioner of Education, Elizabeth Wampum, during a press meeting.

This comes as the state government discovered that about 5,000 private schools in the state were running illegally without a licence.

According to the commissioner, the move was implemented to check the proliferation of illegal Private Schools and to endorse those that operate in adherence to law, so as to ensure quality education for all.

“This is to inform the general public that the operating license of all private Nursery/Pre-primary, Primary, Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools in the State will have to revalidate their certification,” Wampum said.

She added that 90% of private schools in Plateau do not heed to government policies and mandates, saying that 85% of the 495 private schools earlier granted licenses had compromised.
