‘We have repented’ -Reformed Criminals Solicit Nigerians’ Forgiveness

Reformed criminals and former boko haram insurgents occupied the streets of Maiduguri, Borno state yesterday soliciting for forgiveness from residents.

The repentant appealed to the residents as they carried out a sanitation exercise in some of the communities.

The sanitation was organized by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) in collaboration with the Borno state government.

In July, theatre commander of northeast joint task force of operation Hadin Kai, Christopher Musa, had announced that more than 67,000 insurgents have surrendered to troops.

Mala Mustafa, a CDD staff at the exercise said the sanitation is one of the ways to prepare the insurgents for their reintegration process into the society.

They wore T-shirts with captions that read: ‘Please forgive us’, ‘Let’s rebuild Borno again’, ‘We have repented’.

Mustafa added that about 400 of the repentant insurgents have been mobilised for the exercise, with fifty of them participating this Saturday for a start in Maiduguri hajj camp.
