The Zamfara State Government in Nigeria has approved the recruitment of 2,000 personnel for its state anti-thuggery outfit, according to the Chairman of the State Anti-thuggery Standing Committee, Mr. Bello Bakyasuwa.

The committee was established by the state governor, Bello Matawalle, under Executive Order 2 to combat thuggery, drug abuse, and other related crimes throughout the state.

Bakyasuwa revealed that 6,700 candidates, both male and female, applied for the positions and that the committee is currently in the process of recruitment. In addition to the 2,000 personnel being recruited, the committee plans to also recruit additional volunteer personnel.

Bakyasuwa stated that the committee, since its inception, has significantly reduced the prevalence of thuggery, drug abuse, and other related crimes in the state.

He cautioned political parties and politicians against sponsoring youth involvement in such activities and emphasized that the committee was not established for political purposes, but rather to enhance the security situation and protect the lives and property of citizens.

He added that the committee is mandated to support the efforts of the government and security agencies in addressing security challenges in the state.
