Banditry In Zamfara: 75 secondary schools remain shut since 2021

Amidst security concerns, about 75 schools remain closed down in Zamfara since September, 2021.
This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Kabiru Attahiru in Gusau on Saturday.
The Secretary said this while delivering a goodwill message in a two-day conference to domesticate the National Policy on Gender in Education, NPGE, organised by the state’s Universal Basic Education Board in partnership with UNICEF.
He remarked that most of the schools are girls secondary schools shut down since September 2021 after attacks on two girls’ schools in the state.
According to him, the state government is doing its best to reopen the schools closed since September 2021 after threats by bandits.
He clarified that the government ordered the closure of the schools after 75 students from Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, in Maradun Local Government Area of the state were abducted by bandits.
Mr Attahiru stressed the urgency to include field officers in national education policy formulation on gender education to accomplish the desired outcome.
